memories

"Story is the vehicle we use to make sense of our lives in a world that defies logic," said Jim Trelease in his writing. Everyone in the whole world, no matter the race or gender, has his own stories which he can share with each other. People are preserving memories to make sense in their lives and to explain some unexplained thoughts and mysteries. We have been born to tell the story of our life. It is a part of our destiny to have our own story which we can share with somebody.
In "Father Stories," John Edgar Wideman is presenting one of his preserved memories relating to his missing son. His story simply begins with a disappearance of the vehicle camp keys. Everyone in the camp was searched for a few hours to find out the missing keys. Most of the searchers were suspicious that his son was the one who took those keys, but none of them said anything. Even when they finally discovered the keys, nobody pushed him to tell the truth. Like the author said, "You never admitted taking they keys, and nobody pressed you..." (p.40). A few years later, when his son disappeared, Junie, a head caretaker, as well as his grandfather recalled that they saw him playing around. They both remembered what had happened that time. Nobody spoke up until the day that his son disappeared, and then everyone recalled this event with the keys. They started searching again, but in the meantime they found out that "some searches never end," and they start to understand that this time the answer is not around. The author preserves the memory about the missing keys with his son's disappearance. Like the time where the keys were missing many searchers knew who was the suspect, but none of them spoke up. This time everyone knows that the boy is missing, but nobody is talking about that. They are thinking of him and all the time they are looking for the answer.
