main source for all their products sold. In 1995, RMHC gave $614,000 in patronage dividends to their local owners.
RMHC has three divisions of retail business: Home Centre, Shopping Centre, and Petroleum. The Home Centre sells building materials, hardware, animal health products, livestock feed, livestock equipment, and twine. The Shopping Centre makes "savings" by selling food, hardware, and clothing, and it also has a cafeteria. The Petroleum division sells bulk fuels, propane, and oil and lubes. It also has a card lock and a gas bar where it sells its products. The Shopping centre has the highest contribution of $520,000 to "savings" whereas the petroleum division has the lowest contribution of only $67,000 and the Home Centre contributes $153,000. (See Appendix: Exhibit 1).
The Petroleum division has such a low contribution because margins are much lower than the other two areas in the company. These margins are lower due to intense competition and the commodity-type products sold. The other competitive suppliers are Esso, Petro-Canada, Turbo, and Husky. The total fuel market sells about 29.6 million litres in product with Esso being the leader selling 7.5 million litres and RMHC in second selling 5.9 million litres.(See Appendix @ exhibit 2). Most of the fuel went to commercial accounts, which amounted to 18.3 million litres. Farm customers bought 6.1 million litres and consumers bought the least with 2.5 million litres. RMHC sells five types of petroleum product: premium gasoline, regular gasoline, clear diesel, marked gasoline, and marked diesel. The margins on petroleum are the same for each product but do vary depending on the type of the customer. Commercial accounts represent the largest proportion with 175 accounts, totaling 3,113,000 litres per year. RMHC has 150 Farm accounts that purchase 2,086,000 litres per year all together. Their individual consumers buy in total 746,000 litres. (See Appendix...
