My presentation is about the Sant 'Ivo alla Sapienza.
             I chose this church because has a very impressive history. It was build under the rule of three different popes. Another reason why I chose to do this building/church is that it was built by one of the best, if not the best, architects of Rome; Borromini.
             The Sapienza was founded in 1303 by Pope Urban the 8th. The Sapienza served as a chapel that belonged to a law school, which was built in 1244. The Sapienza was built a few years later and fitted perfectly into the already existing building. As I sad before the Sapienza was built under the rule of three different popes. However, during the construction of the Sapeinza Urban the 8th died. Hi successor was Innocent the tenth. He was not entirely happy with the drawings that Borromini mad for Pope Urban. So he assigned Borromini to change the original plans. When Borromini redesigned everything, Innocent the tenth died and Alexander the seventh was assigned to be the new pope. He again didn't agree with Innocent's plans and told Borromini to change his plans once again. As time went by the church became more and more detailed.
             Francesco Borromini, one of the best architects in Italy in his time, he was born in Bissone, Lugano in 1599. He learned stone cutting from his father. In 1619 he moved to Rome where he worked as a craftsman on St. Peters. Initially Borromini worked as a stone mason under Carlo Maderno, the official architect to St. Peter's. By 1620 he was drafting and designing. When Maderno died in 1629, Borromini joined the workshop of Bernini. Under Bernini he gained more experience as a draftsman and designer. In 1634 he began work as an independent architect with his reconstruction of the monastery and church of St. Carlo Borromeo. Borromini died in Rome in 1667.
