This article talks about stem cell research. Stem cells are cells that have not yet been assigned to anything. In stem cell research, they make cells, then they can assign them to be a cell for a certain thing like skin cells, or nerve cells, or maybe even brain cells. In this article, it talks about how they showed 2 rats with spinal injuries. The first rat could not move and was messed up, while the second had been treated with stem cells that had been treated to become cells that wrap around nerve fibers. This allowed the rat to be able to move his hind feet. It talks also how rats are not humans, so it may not work the same, and may be more complicated. It talks of the complications, such as 'if the cells became cancerous' or 'if it was injected wrong, would it cause complications of its own.'
I think that this article was well written and very informative. I learned so many different things about stem cell research that I had not even previously grasped as a concept. It is amazing the things that stem cells could possibly do, although we must all be weary of the consequences or possible hazards that may come along with it. The article also commented on the amount of money that this research requires. I think that if health and the possible cures of many diseases or handicaps is a result, then money should not really be a factor. People pay money to be healthy, especially if it can cure such things as immobility. It is important to be able to get around in this world, and even though there are things like wheel chairs, and even electric wheel chairs, legs are far more preferred to get around with than a machine. Well for some short distances anyway. I mean, without legs a person could never go hiking, or go through a stroll through a forest, whether they want to or not. The fact is that possibly they could have the choice to do such a thing.
