Drug Abuse

             Drug abuse is a huge problem in the United States and throughout the world. Each year more and more people become addicted to drugs. The situation keeps getting worse even though the government spends millions of dollars yearly on drug control. Rehab clinics help addicts get over their problem, but the flaw with that is many people with a drug addiction keep it a secret and don't consider it a problem, just a part of life. There are several ideas to help cut down the problem but so far the numbers are just rising.
             Statistics show that each year more people become drug addicts rather than addicts recovering. Addicts come in every age, race, and financial life. The numbers are so high because every part of the American population has drug addicts in them. The problem isn't just one group of people, its from all different kinds of people ranging from bums on the street to college graduates making a lot of money. Since every social class has addicts in them, its hard for police to tell who has problems and who doesn't. This leads to them being stereotypical because they look for certain people to hassle.
             The government spends millions on the war against drugs which they are pathetically losing. Maybe their spending the money in the wrong place. Nearly all of the money the government spends on the war against drugs is used to try and prevent drug use amongst teens and trying to filter drug traffic. Seeing how this has failed even more each year, maybe the government should try other things. They could spend more money on helping addicts recover rather than trying to prevent new ones. A lot of rehab clinics are mediocre at best when rehabilitating an addict. An addicts mind is very complex and full of negative thoughts. They feel like their drug of choice is the only thing that will make life tolerable and have little motivation to quit.
