The American dream has totally failed to bring any kind of fulfilment spiritual or material. For all the progress and prosperity, for all the declaration of democratic principles, America is still full of poverty, discrimination and exploitation.
             This statement is to me, is not completely correct, although many elements of it are correct. The American Dream hasn't "totally failed to bring any type of fulfilment" but the quote "America is still full of poverty, discrimination and exploitation" is correct, and this also relates to Of Mice and Men, with the poverty, discrimination and most of all, the American dream.
             America has one of the world's largest populations, and a lot of this is because of immigration of people with the American dream embedded in their heads.
             A lot of people are moving and moved into America in a attempt to achieve the Holy Grail, which is an attempt to achieve something great, wether it be the ownership of land, which is what Lennie and George are aiming to get, or some wanted to filthy rich, which would probably mean you have a house anyway, if you were really rich.
             These people would then usually suffer in their attempt to achieve this dream but would fail, leading them into a life with a crappy job with very poor work conditions and minimum wage like Lennie and George, or in some cases no job, and they would live a life of poverty and exploitation (even if they had a job, with the emphasis on IF). A lot of these people with the dream of owning their own house ended up homeless and others aiming to be filthy rich, or even just enough money to live comfortably in an apartment with a few luxuries would end up broke eating out of trash cans, and if you were different, for example black, you would be discriminated against.
