             Africa and Her Cultural past
             1. Africa has a rich cultural heritage that is unique in all its ways. Africans have been known to have the first civilization; however, western scholars have hidden from us the real truth about Africa by presenting many fallacies. Many kingdoms and tribes have found to have organized structures when economics and politics are concerned, and flourished in areas of music, dance, and art. A closer study of the heritage culture of Africa will reveal that Africa is truly the backbone of civilization and will show the European's undying attempt to erase our past.
             2. One of the myths about the Negro's African heritage is the misconception of the West African climate (Herskovits 56). Writers such as Tillinghast claim that the African soil is so fertile that little or no labor is required to reap their produce (57). This misconception tries to show why Africa is behind in the growth of the industrial revolution. Truly, the West African soil is one that requires constant labor in order to derive produce because of its tropical climate and little altitude (56).
             3. Their is a trendy supposition of the African male as one who is brutal, and barbaric savage who allows the women to perform all the duties required to maintain life (Herskovits 58). This assumption proves to be fallacious because in Africa there is a sex division of labor where the men are responsible for the heavy agricultural work and the women fulfill the lighter tasks (58). To be more specific, the heavy labor such as house building, ironworking, and wood carving are performed by the males (58). Lighter tasks such as harvesting, gardening, and food preparation are carried out by the women (58).
