During the time of the Renaissance, there were many changes in the social, political, religious, and scientific aspects of life. These significant modifications were important for the future of modern day life. Some brought us directly to the practices we still have in existence today. The Renaissance Era was a time of great historical transformation.
             Socially, the humanists changed the Renaissance world. These were groups of people that believed in intellectual learning and education based on the study of classical literature. Living a worldly life and using their individual creative powers was of utmost importance. They were less concerned with getting to heaven, and more interested in living life to the fullest, "Carpe Diem." One of the early Renaissance humanists, and also one of the most famous, was Francesco Petrarch, a Florentine. His love poems to a distant woman, Sonnets to Laura, influenced many writers of his time.
             Henry VII was a ruthless ruler with many wives. His goal was to have a son and his success was limited. This obsession changed the political life of the time. Henry was so furious that he could not be freed from his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon, that he took away the authority of the pope. Acting through parliament, he was able to make himself prime ruler of the church and its affairs. After he took total control of the church, he appointed Thomas Cranmer as the archbishop. This was all a part of a series of laws called the Act of Supremacy passed in 1534. Cranmer was quick to annul Henry's marriage to Catherine. There after, Henry had a daughter from his next marriage to Anne Boleyn. He continued to be unsuccessful in trying to give birth to a son. After four more marriages, he only had one son, Edward.
