The crucible

             In the play the Crucible, John Proctor is one of the most noticeable characters in the story because his qualities and attributes set him apart from the monotone society. He is one of the bravest characters in the play because he gives his life for what he believes in. He is extremely loyal to his family and friends. And he is also faced with probably one of the most difficult choices one person could dream of making in there life time.
             John Proctor's bravery makes him an easy man to respect because he is faced with situations that require many difficult decisions and it is his bravery that enables him to make the best choices. John Proctor is married to Elizabeth Proctor but he disobeys one of the Ten Commandments when he commits adultery with a lady named Abigail Willams. Soon after John's mistake he confesses his sin to his wife. This is a very brave act because telling a lover that you cheated on her is a very difficult thing to do. A while after John's confession he is faced with the decision to keep this sin between him and his wife or confess it once again to his peers in society. Once again John's bravery leads him confesses what he has done and put shame to his face. But when he is faced with the decision to make his crime official by signing his confession he cant do it and gives his life for the mere thought that his name will be blackened on the church wall. "Because it is my name.... Because I only get one..." (act IV) this quote shows John's reason for not signing the document. He gives his confession verbally but when he is forced to make the choice to have it official and live or make it his crime unknown but die, he chooses death over life.
             John Procor's greatest fear was hurting his wife Elizabeth. This doesn't become a major priority until after he cheats on her but when he realizes how important she is to him he does everything to keep her. After cheating on Elizabeth, ...
