In the play, Trifles, written by Susan Glaspell in 1916, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale try to help Minnie. Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale both know what Minnie's suffering was like. Minnie's suffering from being alone all the time and being married to a cold mannered husband. As Mrs. Hale described him to Mrs. Peters, "... he was a hard man, Mrs. Peters. Just to pass the time of day with him. Like a raw wind that gets to the bone" (977). Mrs. Hale's and Mrs. Peters nurturing ways, along with Mrs. Hale's guilt for not being around or stopping by once in a while, lead them to help in Minnie's time of need.
             Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale entered the house. The house was a farmhouse, in which Minnie worked very hard everyday.
             A lot was to be done around a farmhouse, and since
             Minnie was alone all the time Mrs. Hale felt sorry for her. " I liked her all well enough. Farmers' wives have their hands full" (974). Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale were not alone
             when they entered the house. Along with Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, entered the sheriff, which was Mrs. Peters' husband, Hale, and the county attorney. The sheriff and the county attorney were at the farmhouse to collect evidence. Evidence that would connect Minnie to her husband's, John Wright, murder. Minnie strangled John in his sleep that previous night.
             Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale felt bad for what Minnie had done, but Mrs. Hale thought she was at fault for Minnie 's actions. Mrs. Hale felt guilty because she never took the time to visit Minnie or stop by to see her once in a while. Mrs. Hale did not see much of Minnie over the years. " I could've come. I stayed away because it weren't cheerful-and because it's down in a hollow, and you don't see the road. I dunno what it is, but it's a lonesome place and always was. I wish I had come over to see Minnie Foster sometimes" (977)
