Drink driving

             Drink driving is defined as driving with an illegal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). The NSW limit for new, young and some groups of professional drivers is 0.02. For other drivers the limit is 0.05.Following the NSW Government's introduction of Random Breath Testing in 1982 and ongoing RTA public education campaigns about the personal and social consequences of drink driving, it is now generally established in the community that drink driving is socially unacceptable.This unsafe driver behaviour still occurs however and in 1999 over 17% of fatal crashes involved a driver with an illegal BAC. Over 23% of drivers killed on the State's roads had an illegal BAC, and over 14% had a BAC of 0.15 or more. Of the drink drivers involved in fatal or injury crashes, 38% were aged 25 years or under, and 83% of those young drink drivers were male.The laws regarding drinking under the age of 18 vary in each state.According to the Federal Department of Health and Ageing's Drinking Choices website, the following rules are consistent across the country.If you are under 18 you are only allowed to drink in an unlicenced public place with adult supervision from a parent or legal guardian.
