Cultural Diversity

             History has shown us that Europeans are the only ones to have ever really done anything of significance in the world and that Europeans are the staple of a successful society. On the contrary, other countries had already established a working collective community until the Europeans came along and supposedly "discovered" them. Very audaciuos, if you ask me! If there had been cultural diversity awareness at the time, maybe there would not have been all of the presumptions that were made about these other civilizations.
             I believe it is important to teach cultural diversity in all schools because of the complexity of the ethnicities that make up the United States. With the growing population of immigrants who have made the United States their new home, it is important to educate and be educated on the cultural differences that have evolved in America. Today, more than ever, students come from different linguistic, racial, economic, and cultural upbringings. The increase in these diversities with the student population, as well as the population as a whole, should be the logic behind this newfangled neccessity. When we begin to understand all of the qualities that make up our cultures, it will be easier for us to be ourselves without any fear of being extradited from society.
             I feel that students should not only focus on the isolated diversities in the United States, but that they should also become aquainted with the culture differences around the world. Although it would be ideal to teach cultural diversity in all classrooms and to all grade levels, I believe that just more than one specific group needs to have training in cultural diversity. It would benefit the entire world to educate everyone on each others' heritages to enable us to come together as equals. We are all different and we each have our unique cultures.
