Internet censorship

             1,326,920,000, that is the number of web pages that are currently available to the public today. It could go up dramatically by the end of the week. With the internet becoming such a big part of our everyday lives, is it safe for everyone? Should such an un-regulated form of technology suddenly be regulated and even censored? Is such an arduous task even possible? There are too many points of view on a question as broad as this. There are however, logical courses of action that can be discussed.
             For one, the internet is not confined to a small geographical area. It is called the World Wide Web for a reason. Browsing allows you to travel to any part of the world and experience new cultures for yourself. Is it safe to allow the common person to have a tool this powerful at their fingertips? A person in the United States may post a controversial topic on a web page and it could be viewed by another person in a tightly controlled government. In a way, it allows the entire world to become a single community and share points of view on any issue with each other. There is nobody controlling what one person places onto a server for all to see. We have to keep in mind that websites are usually the product of one person's opinions or interests. It may be fair to say that more people in the United States have computers, and probably most of the content out there is made in America. Would that necessarily mean that the United States is imposing its views onto anyone else in the world with a computer? It may be possible to allow the individual to decide what they want to put on a web page. Others with the same interest will view that page, and the rest will stick to their own interests.
             A more technical course of action would be a logical way to regulate the internet. From country to country, any government could issue laws that would force internet service providers (ISP's) to place filters onto the servers at their central office...
