Divine Revelation

             When trying to define divine revelation, I found it easier to look at each word by itself. Divine, as defined by our book, means literally "of God." I know that revelation is the process in which God makes himself, his will, and other information known to mankind. Revelation is the discovery by God to man of himself. Man is often short-sighted, he need glasses. The ignorance helplessness of man in his natural state demands the revelation in the whole of Scripture. All scripture is revelation. Scripture provides man with a final authority for creed and conduct, also for faith and practice. Through nature (Romans 1:18-21; Psalms 19); through providential dealings (Romans 8:28); through miracles (John 2:11); through direct communication (Acts 22:17-21); through Christ (John 1:14) revelation is revealed by God.
             The importance of divine revelation in my life at this time is my life is monumental. Just recently I have been seeing God a lot in various places. He reveals himself to me in numerous ways. An obvious revelation to me at this time is my family. Through my grandparents and my youngest cousins, I am seeing the cycle of life in perspective. I think that perspective is given to me by God. From the birth of my cousins I see God and through the inevitable, nearing death of my grandparents I see God. In Acts, God revealed himself through direct communication. I myself have not experienced this, but I believe it could happen. I also see God in nature as well as in other people besides my family. I know that God is present in each and every person, it is just whether or not that person wants to let that be known.
             So revelation is the fact of God speaking. The question is how he did this speaking. He spoke by the prophets, ultimately in his Son (Hebrews 1:1-3); and when it came for his message to be written in scripture, he inspired the message (1 Timothy 3:15-16).
