Respect. To me respect is how someone else treats me as a person. Whether they agree with me in a certain instance or not, they should at all times be polite, courteous, and over all respectful to me. Throughout the paper I am going to refer to examples at my work place, because when I am working it is the only time that people truly and actually respect me.
             What respect means to me. When I am at work I expect the other employees show a little bit of respect towards me. Whether it is a Manager, Assistant Manager, or just a co-worker, I expect them to be respectful, even if they do not at all times respect me. I have been working at Dunkin Donuts for about two years now, and I am one of the main Night-Shift workers and closers. Since I have been working night-shift for one or more years than all of the other night-shift workers, I do expect them to do what I ask and respect me. If I ask a co-worker to do a certain task, help a certain customer, or anything else pertaining to the job, I do not expect them to answer me rudely and refuse to do what I ask, I expect them to respect my position, and politely do what I tell them to do. That is pretty much what respect means to me.
             What I think the definition of respect is. The definition of respect is pretty much exactly what respect means to me. What I think the definition of respect is, in my own words, is reverence, esteem, and politeness shown to other people simply because it is the right and polite thing to do. Whether you like the person, agree with the person, or down-right loath the person, you should at all times be polite and respectful towards them just because it is the right and proper thing to do. Respect can also be used in a stronger, more realistic kind of way. The other way, in my opinion, respect applies is towards authority figures.
