As Gregers increasingly learn more about the past and the truth, Gregers reaches the most significant transition in his personality. He goes from being an expressive and happy go lucky kind of person to an emotionless, less expressive person whose voice in addition becomes monotone the majority of the time. This transition occurs during the discussion between Gregers and his father Haakon Werle in act two, lines 378 to 605. Gregers tone of voice is fairly loud and vigorous at the beginning of the conversation which expresses his anger towards his father. For example, the first line in the conversation when Gregers says, "How could anyone here let that family decay so pitifully?" (Worthen, pg 26, Act two line 385) should be said stern and firmly. He becomes emotionless and less expressive throughout the play after he fully discovers the truth about his father and the Ekdal family.
