Needed A license to drink

             The article, "Needed: A license to Drink", by Mike Brake, explores various reasons to issue a drinking license to those who wish to consume alcohol. The author stresses the facts of the addiction to alcohol as a major health concern in America. Following this, the article looks at all of the reprocautions that drinking has on families, society, and individuals. It proposes that a license would need to be attained to ingest alcohol. The method to get the license is comparable to acquiring a driver's license, and comes with consequences. Based on these facts, along with personal experiences, this proposal for a drinking license does entice me to locate more information on how to create a law and enforce it.
             The most important argument Brake makes, is the issue that alcohol addiction is one of the biggest public-health concerns in the United States. For an entire country to be affected by such a frightful disease is an ample reason to try and change it. There are many diseases in this country that are incurable, but addiction to alcohol could be significantly decreased with this license. This is unlike HIV, which we really have no answer for. Saving money is a huge part of everyone's life. Brake lets us know that alcoholism costs about 90 billion dollars per year. The money that goes toward this health issue is paid by our tax dollars. A license to drink would stop many of the problems it causes, which in turn would decrease the amount of money we have to spend. I know that this would please most people because who doesn't like money? Also it concerns me to know that this disease is hurting our country. It would be encouraging to overcome another obstacle in this world of strife.
