According to Howard Spodek, Christianity is a monotheistic religion that originated in 600 B.C.E. The religion was based on a belief in one God and was open to all people and all were equal. To be a part of this religion you need to accept Jesus as your savior. Jesus was said to be the son of their God, who was sent to save all of mankind. You also must believe that he was crucified, resurrected, and shall return in the future. There are rules called commandments that you must try to follow. It is believed that Moses, a prophet, brought these rules down from Mt. Sinai to the people from God. In addition to following the commandments, you must acknowledge that there is a heaven and hell and to you reach heaven through faith and salvation. The Bible is the book that tells us much about the religion in the past and how Paul, who is responsible for most of the spread of Christianity, changed his name to Saul and even wrote some of the books in the Bible. It is said that Christianity derived from Judaism. Judaism started about 3800 years ago with Abraham, who is a biblical character who sealed a covenant with God that all will worship him. The Jews have always been a small group but Judaism was a big part of other religions and religions like Christianity and Islam derived much of their beliefs from it. The Judaism religion is based on the Old Testament or Holy Writ, which was proved by the Council of Rabbis. Judaism is still around today but still a small religion.
