Teenagers today are considering themselves as Generation X because that is what society lable them as. This generation is lost in translation because we really have nothing to branch on ourselves on. The 30's 40's and 60's all have major history evens like The Great Depression, World War Two, and Vietman War to branch themselves on. The only historical even Generation X had is September 11, which had very little effect on us. We really have nothing to depend on to define our generation and that is why young generation will still depend on the marketplace to define their generation
Generation X are group of people known as of flannel-wearing, alienated, over-educated, underachieving slackers with body piercing who drank Starbucks coffee and had to work at McJobs. It is what teenagers today are being label. Youth's culture in general can be characterize by a distinct style of clothes and a strong desire to be rich and "cool". Money and trend define position in society for teenagers. For example, having lot of money suggest that you are stable in life, and it means that you have the resource to satisfy your needs for material. Having fashion trends signal status in a social group because keeping up with fashion requires a large amount of money, and fashion can be used to show off wealth. Teenagers dream of living a fabulous lifestyle because they are being influence by what they see in T.V. Teens want to own house like their super-stars in MTV Cribs, which cost like million and million of dollar to own. In addition, teens want to be rich like Donald Trump or Bill Gate, because those people have lot of money that they could generally do whatever they want.
