Due to the lack of European women in the new world, native women, who once were in charge of the aspects of the home, became subjected to the conquistadors' sexual wishes. If Indian women resisted the sexual desires of Spanish men, they "were whipped, raped, physically abused, tortured, and killed" (Socolow 38).
