The Greek culture has been the basis of all literature and writings after it. Greek ancient literature has been so prominent of its time that a lot of today's literature has tried to imitate the Greek style of writing. Today's writers have taken notice to the structure of Greek epic poems, and the way they have put together their values or themes of writing. The Greeks have had a dominating role in writing and artwork and many will agree that aside from the Bible we can establish some of our same values and morals to those of the Greeks.
             When looking into the epic of Oedipus rex, we know that he was a tragic hero and that he had a flaw that will ultimately bring him closer and closer to his own doom. When you look at the character of Oedipus rex his arrogance impeded his judgment of trying to change his destiny from marrying his mother and killing his farther, even after confronted about it he denied the truth. The way Oedipus thought of himself didn't fit his true character and therefore needed to change so that he could be faced with the truth and prevail upon his arrogance and accept his faults to become a true and complete individual. When looking at the books of the Odyssey and the Bible we notice that there is a struggle between the hero and what he needs to do and the hero's perception of what he thinks needs to do. In the book "The Death of a Salesman" the same attitude towards life and thinking it revolved around him kept the character from aspiring to what he could've evolved to. While life passed by the character he could not advance because he tried to surpass the standard set by his farther. This struggle ultimately leads to the characters recognition of their true reality, and forcing the character to grow and become stronger and realize that they need to change.
