The issue of privacy and confidentiality raises many eyebrows in ethics. This is because the interpretation of confidentiality varies depending on the situations; privacy has been defined as a condition of not having undocumented personal knowledge about one possessed by others. A person's privacy is diminished exactly to the degree that others possess the kind of knowledge about him. Many theorists have their opinions on privacy and confidentiality, but confidentiality should be seen as something that people are entitled to and should receive when providing personal information disclosing discreet info that should not be shared with others. Ethics is a major factor in managing privacy and confidentiality, it is important that we are able to take a situation and make the right judgments based on maintaining privacy; however, we cannot base on our judgment alone. For this is the reason why the law inacted privacy regulations so the public could be protected with any personal information that would be shared. Privacy and confidentiality should be respected, as it is a judgment that all people should feel safe providing their personal information, it is important that we maintain privacy for the following reasons: 1. Respect for a person's privacy illustrates respect for the individual, 2. Maintaining privacy ensures safety and security for the people and 3. Confidentiality builds a better relationship as trust exists in the relationship and people perform more efficiently.
