             As his life continued with him writing more novels and said to be better ones. His driving force for writing these novels was the remembrance of his childhood of poverty. Being afraid of returning to poverty he drove himself to do more. In 1851 Dickens was struck with the death of his father and one of his daughter within a two-week period. This also could be considered a driving force in his writings. (Partly in response of these losses, he embarked on a series of works which have come to be called his "dark novels" and which rank among the greatest triumphs of the art of fiction. (EWB 540)).
