Some authors like to write their stories so that there could be many interpretations of what is going on in the story. Edger Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" is a great example of how authors may do this. In the story, the family has a curse, which is never stated. I believe that the real curse is that the family are all vampires. There are a few ways in which this can be noted. One is the unique architecture in which the house is explained, secondly is the way the Usher acts all together, and lastly is the mood of the whole story.
             The architecture of a building can explain a lot of what time period it was built in and why it was build. In this short story the Usher's house is full of architectural items that seemingly are old and very expensive. For instance, in the story the describe the outside as "Its principle feature seemed to be that of an excessive antiquity.... In this there was much that reminded me if the specious totality of the old woodwork which has rotted for long years in some neglected vault, with no disturbance of external air,(1195)." This whole passage explains that there is an old antique look to the external of this mansion in which the Ushers live. The quote states that the wood seems to be very old looking which as most vampires family's have been known to be a very long history in there family tree. It also states that in is seemingly extraordinary. This is also been a trait that vampires have, is that they are always very wealthy, which allows them to buy expensive mansions. The inside of the house is much more of the same eloquence. "The windows were long, narrow, and pointed, and at so vast a distance from the black oaken floor as to be altogether inaccessible from within....Dark draperies hung upon the walls,(1195.)"
