n Japan, were both atomic bombs. Hiroshima was the main target of the first atomic bomb. The bomb exploded over Hiroshima at 8:15 on August 6, 1945. At about 7:00 that morning the Japanese detected the approach of the American aircrafts and at about 8:00 an air raid alert was lifted after determining that there were only about 3 aircrafts. The bomb exploded fifteen minutes later causing a blinding flash in the sky, and a huge rush of air and a loud rumble of noise extended for miles around the city (The Avalon Project,2004, p.1).
Nagasaki was the target for the second atomic bomb. On August 9, 1945 the bomb was dropped at about 11:02 AM. The bomb once again went off without a hitch, despite the unfavorable weather conditions experienced by the crew (The Avalon Project,2004, p.2).
