Living through life

             Everyone falls in love sometime in their life. Whether it is love at first site or love built up after being with someone after a long period of time, they all attain different characteristics of a loving relationship. In the story Selway by Pam Houston, the narrator has a love and a drive to stay with her boyfriend who is a wild and untamable person who loves to live on adventure. One of his hobbies is white water rafting where he gets his thrills. He decides to go on one of the hardest rivers around. He decides to take up the offer and take his girlfriend along with him. She is always up for a challenge and is very spontaneous and chaotic herself. Along the trip the narrator receives wisdom in which she really takes to heart. From the beginning of the story until the end, we will see the narrator gradually changes over the course of the adventurous trip. The narrators mind changes in her views, but also changes from her experience to realize she would live out the rest of her life by his side.
             As the story beings, the narrator and Jack start their trip of a lifetime by heading down to the Selway River. They have both known each other for about one year. She is one of four girlfriends who has gone out with Jack and has stayed with him for that long. She is the type of girl who is young and wants to be in a relationship but doesn't have the excess baggage like most. She was always the type of girl who wanted the guy and fought for the guy who was the most wild and untamable. The guys would then fall in love with her and not have that same passion just because they were bounded to her. The narrator wants a guy who was self sufficient and could keep on going but at same time have her and not lose his untamed heart. Every guy would have to be even wilder than the one before every time she tamed him.
             She doesn't pressure Jack at all to stay at home and not waste away his precious life by going on phenomenal trip...
