I find drugs to be a readily available source of self destruction for teenagers. Often, teenagers misuse drugs and find themselves in bad situations. Sometimes, the bad situations result in hospital visits and even death. Drugs are a force pushing teenagers into peer pressure, while turning them away from families and school.
Parties are part of high school, but they cause problems for many teenagers. Peer pressure causes many teenagers to make decisions that are very costly. I was at a baseball tournament my sophomore year, when five of my teammates took illegal pills. One of my teammates was taken to the hospital and the other four were kicked off the team. I had a friend that was drinking one night and decided to drive, he was pulled over, given a DWI , and he lost his licence for thirty days. Trying to be popular has caused some students to lose opportunities that could have been beneficial to their career.
As students spend more time trying to be popular, by partying, they lose contact with their parents. A friend of mine started drinking everyday and he grew away from his family. He dumped his girlfriend and started dating a girl that had a party reputation. He was constantly arguing with his parents, so he spent much of his time away from home. My parents began to ask questions and became suspicious of his activities. Another friend of mine was caught drinking and his parents sent him to a rehabilitation center. I had a teammate that started doing meth, and he lost all contact with his family. Drugs cause teenagers to separate from their true friends and family.
In addition, students that do drugs loose interest in school. My freshman year of high school I had a friend that made all A's the first quarter, and he started drinking second quarter, his grades dropped to C's.
