Same-sex marriage

             Marriage, a very important yet controversial issue, is a tradition used among many nations. It is "the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law" (Merriam-Webster). In today's world, "We find this debate to be intellectually and politically fascinating" (Curry par. 10). For example, months ago, President Bush called for a ban on same-sex marriage in order to help him to get elected. Since the first same-sex marriage was recognized in Hawaii (Hayden XII), more people now think it is acceptable to marry a person who has the same gender as themselves; therefore, there are more people coming out of the closet, and more same-sex marriages are organized in other states and countries. People think allowing same-sex marriage in this country is appropriate and that it will not create problems since it is lawful and will not go against the Bible; in reality, same-sex marriage is not acceptable, and there is no word in our constitution that states same-sex marriage is lawful. Most importantly, this is not Biblical. Three groups that are affected by the same-sex-marriage are the children, the married couple, and other Christians.
             Obviously, in same-sex marriages, it is not possible to produce offspring themselves. They can only do this in other ways, such as adoption or other unnatural methods. "Marriage begins a family, and the purpose of a family is to produce the next generation. Therefore, families are designed by nature for children" (Koukl par. 51). Children can not perform their best behavior without both Mother and Father, even though in today's world, heterosexual marriages don't often have both parents anymore. This is not what a family supposed to be. If a building does not have a strong and secure foundation, it will collapse and crumble to pieces in the future. Just like this house, if a family does not have a secure and upright foundation...
