Leadership essay

Leadership is an ability that requires the use of many other traits in a person. A leader must be patient, strong-minded, understanding, quick, and focused. The one specific example of my leadership ability that embodies all of those qualities is my role as Student Body President of my high school. This role requires me to not only unify the school but also to support the students and stimulate their desire to better themselves.
The main problem at my school is the lack of ambition in the student body. The majority of teenagers are unsure of their future and, quite frankly, could care less about their studies. My group of friends are the complete opposite. We strive to succeed in our classes so that we can ensure a brighter future for ourselves. By setting an example for my fellow classmates, I use my leadership skills to encourage those around me to do the same. Surprisingly, many of the teens actually to make an effort to do better.
Every high school has different types of students who all have different goals. As a leader, it is difficult to please everyone. Some aspirations will have to be sacrificed for better causes. For example, a simple job like picking out the design for the senior t-shirt can prove to be a conflict. Deciding what group to provide charity for can also be difficult. At the end of the day, I have to make a decision that both benefits yet pleases the majority.
My job as President has taught me to listen, learn, and lead in the right direction. Being a leader comes with negative retributions that can discourage even the strongest person. I am assured that my experience has given me the ability to judge situations and provide the instructions to support the best outcome.
