Crowd behavior

             Human social behavior is a fascinating subject for observation. While socialization is not limited to humans, many animals move in herds and human socialization has the unique dimension of self-awareness. We become aware of what we are doing and we often lose spontaneity and get influenced by numerous factors. In particular, human social behavior is influenced greatly by society's culture, as well as each person's self-image and world-image. Collective Behavior is the way a group thinks, feels, or acts as a unit in response to an irrational process. Psychologist categorized crowd/group behavior in two main theories: One, a crowd is less organized; they share a common approval/disapproval or similar emotion. Secondly, they share a common gesture, comments and stimulate similar behavior and move the crowd. H.G Blumer categorized four types of crowds. One type of a crowd is a casual crowd which consists of curious people and they come together without premeditation. The second type of crowd is a conventionalized crowd which consists of spectators at a football game. The third type of crowd is an acting crowd which has objective to carry out and follow a self appointed leader. The fourth type of crowd is the expressive crowd which engages in physical activity like dancing or violence. When a crowd results to disorderly, aggressive behavior it is called a mob. The four types of mobs are aggressive mob (physical violence), escape mob (inflict fear and pain), acquisitive mob (people who rush to acquire something when they believe that it has a short supply), and a expressive mob (people who are caught up in physical violence). The contagion Theory states that people personalities dissolve into the unified personality of the crowd and that they are no longer guided by individual will, it will become the crowds.
