In the movie, Bruce Almighty, I chose to answer the philosophical question, can we understand happiness? The film is about a TV reporter by the name of Bruce. He does wacky news reports, but wants to be taken seriously by his boss so he can become the next anchor man. He doesn't like the life he lives now with his broken car, his dog that isn't potty trained, and doesn't really appreciate his girlfriend. Finally, Bruce gets to prove that he could be a real anchor man, but messes up and ends up losing his job. When he tries to help out a guy, he gets beat up and his car keyed. He blames God for him being unhappy and bad mouths him. The next day, he meets God and God decides since Bruce isn't happy with the way that God does his job, he could take over. When Bruce gets God's powers, He starts to use them to make him happy. He gives himself a new car, gets his job as an anchor man, and gets revenge on certain people. What Bruce doesn't realize is that he's losing a big piece of his happiness because he's being greedy. After trying to fix things to be back to the way they were, he figures that all he needs to be happy is his girlfriend and regular life.
             I think that the film was leaning more towards a no answer to the question, can we understand happiness. As one essay in the book agrees that yes, we can understand happiness, it defines happiness as reaching most of your goals. In this movie, that isn't true. At first, Bruce did think that if he got everything he wanted like the job, revenge, and the car that he would be happy. Getting the job was his biggest goal in the movie and
             when he finally got it, he couldn't even do it. Things were going wrong and he wasn't happy. In a way though, when Bruce got the power and achieved his goals, he was
