Letting go of Knowledge

             A brutal reality in the United States of America is that there are millions of high school students that choose to drop out of high school every year. Why any one person would willingly give up the right to receive a free education is boggling to the mind. Education is the key to success, at least that is what's pounded into our heads from the time school is started.
             There must be an underlying reason for the dropout rate to be so high, especially in my current generation. I would argue that I currently reside in a the spoon fed generation, which, expects the whole world to be handed to them. Others would state that students who drop out or decide to end their education early are those that are simply taking a part in the course of destiny and nature. The there are such optimists that would say some aren't meant for school. Well whatever the case may be, a resolution should be determined to deal with the problem.
             "Me, me, me, me, me. I want, I want, I want," are sayings that are common amongst my generation. When I observe a majority of my surrounding class mates there is one thing that jumps out at me. The simple fact that everybody expects everything to be handed to them on a silver platter. Now I acknowledge my respectful classmates that actually work and strive to receive the A, or the acceptance to college. The amount of young people I see slacking off in class or not caring about the homework figuring that it will be worth a measly grade amazes me. When a teacher actually challenges a student to achieve what they are capable of, the student moans, groans and gives the teacher a hard time; disheartening the teacher and his/her methods. This situation, in turn, frustrates the child and they end up ending their education. I believe that the problem stems from middle school. Middle school is the stage of schooling that children are to be molded, and be made ready for the type of workload and change that occ...
