Policy issue surrounding Aids & Aids Victims

             Most people in the world don't even know what Aids means, for those people who are victims of this dreadful disease; it is formally known as 'Acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It was 1st reported in the United States in 1981 and came to be known as a public health crisis to modern times.
             This disease is caused by a virus, which attacks an individual's immune system, leaving him vulnerable to a number of deadly infections. The number of Aids victims has been going up dramatically in the recent years, and it is still incurable. It can be transmitted through sexual contact, contaminated blood, and the use of contaminated hypodermic needles. Aids are most common around homosexual or bisexual men, drug abusers, hemophiliacs, and the babies of high-risk mothers. Regardless of how 'critical' they consider Aids to be, the government is moving ahead with measuring aimed at halting the spread of the disease. They have increased the research funding, and sponsored educational programs; such as the booklet they sent out named "Understanding Aids", with basic information on the disease.
             But there have been debates about discrimination of Aids victims, and it is one of the biggest obstacles, to overcome. To cover most of the Aids health-care costs they have 'Medicaid' – which is the states and federally funded health insurance program for people with little or no money.
             The companies, which raise the most, protest from Aids activists, are insurance companies. These companies argue that they should no be required to unknowingly take on new policyholders who are at high risk of acquiring Aids. But this is very important for Aids victims because if they acquire the disease it eventually Robs them of the capability to work.
