My mother is always telling me about how furthering my education will open more doors for me. She says that a college education will help further my career potential and ultimately help keep me financially secure. These are both great reasons but are not the only reasons why I am here. I am attending college to gain as much information as I can so that I can help mold young people and perhaps keep them away from negative influences.
             I am attending Chicago State University as a music education major. I have always wanted to be a teacher because teachers can be some of the most influential people to children. In order to become a teacher, I must have the proper training. To gian the proper training I must attend college.
             I chose music education because I love music. Music has not only helped me academically, it has also helped me emotionally and financially. Statistics have shown that students who excel in music usually excel in reading, science and math. If i am able to teach children music, it may help them like it helped me.
             While I know a great deal about music in general, I don't know all of the theory behind it. College gives me a place to learn the theory for myself so that I am able to properly teach music to others.
             My mother is probably right about a college education opening more doors. I've been in school for only a year and I've already become more employable. It feels great to receive more job opportunities but I know that I'll feel even better when I have students come back to tell me how well they are doing whether they chose music or not.
