s a huge conflict between the Greeks and the Persians, which resulted in warfare. Also, the Persians were categorized as an empire because they were a huge political unit that was very powerful.
When the Greek Colonists were driven out of Greece, many of them ended up in the city of Ionia. This group of people was ruled by a certain group of citizens called the Lydians. The Lydians were an effective group that had power. They lost this title to a set of people called the Persians, which took the title from them in a series of encounters. The Ionian Greeks were good people that just wanted equal rights, which they couldn't receive from the Persians. They were upset, unhappy, and demoralized. They wanted a change, so they forced a rebellion. As A.T. Olmstead states in his book History of the Persian Empire:
Large numbers of Ionian Greeks had been brought together by the Scythian Expedition. Conscious at last of their united strength but quite failing to realize that they had lost their last chance, now that the troubles incidental to the Persian accession, had been quieted, the Ionians decided to revolt.
The revolt that the Greeks attempted to do, only worked temporarily. The Persians took a while to get their army and military set to go, but once they did they were a force that was not to be reckoning with. Aristagoras, a Greek leader, was expecting this. He went to every Greek city state in need of help. The biggest city state Sparta would not agree, stating that the battle had no influence on them, and would be a waste of their time. Aristagoras was in trouble but got help from Athens. They sent their navy to help defend the Greeks. Even though the Greeks received helped from the Athens they could not take down the powerful Persians. The battle was very short as soon as the Persians made an appearance the rebellion was over. Aristagoras was murdered and the revolt did not end the way that he had and his men had hoped.
