After viewing the video, 1776, I gained an impression of the types of problems and discussions that presented themselves during the great debate for independence among the Founding Fathers. There were many issues among the delegates that would not allow them to work together for the cause of the independence. One problem being that the Delegates could not decide if they wanted independence or not. Half of them wanted it and half of them didn't. The part that didn't wanted their colony to be born into the great European Empire and wanted to be run by the European Government. The European Empire at that time was gigantic and had a lot of wealth to it along with a protective army. Another reason on why the delegates had trouble deciding was that some colonies had specific recommendations for proposals such as the Carolinas they only would acknowledge a proposal if a gentleman proposed it such as Mr. Henry Lee. He made a proposal and the Carolinas acknowledged it because he was a gentleman, how they still voted nay. There were also many logistical problems that the delegates experienced while trying to "run a revolution" and administer to the needs of the colonies. Some of these problems were the fact that they were away from there family for such a long period of time. The delegates would eventually want to go see their family therefore they would not be able to decide on independence while one of them were gone. For instance Thomas Jefferson wanted to go home to see his wife but he didn't because works was in the way. So he had to tell his wife to come visit him. The delegates also had a hard time writing a declaration. The men that made up the declaration committee were Sherman, Livingingston, Jefferson, Adams and Franklin. The committee had to come up with a declaration but they were fighting because none of them wanted to write it. Eventually Jefferson got stuck with the job but
