I assume is Adam, is also a reproduction of the serpent, and is apparently tempting the woman (Eve), inverting the nature of the gender roles. Woman, is no longer the cause of temptation, it is the man who sways Eve with temptation and desire. Hence, Blake uses textual imagery to entice the senses in evoking Eden, and then demolishes these perceptions by recreating Eden with a more powerful and vivid illustration through the medium of the painting. The "Argument," is the beginning in recreating the mythology of Christianity.
             Blake's attempt to recreate the mythology of Christianity is not seen more explicitly than in the Proverbs of Hell which imitates the Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament.
