During the second half of the 19th century, a large amount of changed took place in the U.S. The urban scene was the place for the majority of these changes. US Cities were being taken over total renovations. Some changes were not accepted by the people.
             The changes in these times helped make America what it is today. Without these changed in economy or physical landscapes, we may have a totally different aspect of the urban scene.
             During the 1850's – 1890's the urban scene has been totally out numbered by the rural scene. This may have been the result in the increase in immigrants coming into the city, and non-immigrants wanting a better life than what the urban scene turned into. The population of the rural scene over the urban scene has been almost doubled and almost tripled sometimes during the 1850's-1890.(Doc. 1) City life at this time was dirty, grimy and absolutely unbearable for middle and upper class people. This life must have been very hard for kids, knowing that they couldn't play in a playground, instead with dirty or ash. Kids sitting on streets with their legs dangling in the sewage system were one of the few ways they got to hang out. (Doc. 2) Urban life created new kinds of politicians. The politicians were only interested in the support of the immigrants or people who didn't know better in the city at these times. They funded many small things that in immigrants eyes were huge. Giving money out left and right was a way to support the new immigrants to mold into their new lives. This was seen as both a negative and positive during these times. (Doc. 5)
             The urban scene of the cities at this time had many improvements. The downtown scene turned from a small space for people to live in, turned into a giant corporate business district that will fluctuate the cities overall economy introducing new jobs and such.
