questioned the authenticity of certificates granted to couples in Massachusetts, California, etc. While the states supported their decision, proclaiming equality for all citizens, the national government fired back saying that marriage is held between a man and a woman. Another issue spreading controversy is the states' varying outlook on the protection of the environment. For example, New York decides to allow industries a higher level of pollutants in their air than the surrounding states, and this caused an unbearable amount of smog in New Jersey. Who is held accountable? There is no way of New Jersey overriding this policy and preventing New York from the ability of public policy. The only possible way to end this situation is to have a national level of government intervene and set policy based on implied powers, making this a difficult procedure. Recently, an additional problem arose, in which majority of the state of California voted in favor of the production of the marijuana crop for medical necessity.
