Euthanasia

             St. Augustine once said "It is never licit to kill another: even if he should wish it, indeed if he request it, hanging between life and death... nor is it licit even when a sick person is no longer able to live". When one kills a disabled or severely sick person without consent it is called murder. On the other hand, when the "murder" is performed by a doctor with or without consent it is called Euthanasia. "Euthanasia is the act or practice of ending the life of an individual suffering from a terminal illness or an incurable condition, as by lethal injection or the suspension of extraordinary medical treatment" (Dictionary, 1). In the past few decades Euthanasia has been performed to many patients in the United States. The debate on whether to legalize Euthanasia or not keeps to continue. Euthanasia is cruel and an inhumane act. Euthanasia should not be legalized because it would effect the society in many ways.
             The legalization of Euthanasia would cause minorities to be victimized. African-Americans are 50 % less likely to get heart by-pass surgery and 25% less likely to get pain medication than their counterparts in other races. Despite equal Medicare coverage, affluent elderly white patients often receive better medical care than African-Americans or poor people of all races (International, 1). African Americans and people other than white will be treated unequally with the legalization of Euthanasia. Minorities would be scared to even go to a doctor to seek help. They would be scared of lethal injection or any action of that sort. Inequality in health care is a harsh reality. Since the white Americans in the United States are the dominating race, they get the most benefits. According to a study taken in 1999 published in Annals Of Emergency found that African-American patients with a broken arm or leg are less likely to be given pain medication in emergency rooms than white patients with similar injuri...
