             The turn of the 21st century had marked an incredible stepping stone in history. Our knowledge and creativities allowed technology to soar higher and farther than anyone could imagine. Computers, mobile-phones, pagers, palm pilots, and electric vehicles are the results of our technological advances. It has co-existed with us for hundreds of years. From rotary phones to cell-phones, black and white TVs to modern satellite dishes, technology is constantly being renovated. Take computers as an example:
             The personal computer is no longer a novelty. It is becoming the standard tool for business, professional, and personal needs. The PC is a powerful, multi-purpose instrument that is used for typing letters and documents, preparing financial reports, maintaining bank account, listening to music, playing games, browsing and chatting on the Internet. (Chu 3)
             The Internet on the other hand is not an instrument. It is "the most recent frontier for technology" (Warner 203). Unlike computers, it has no physical form which we can touch or manipulate. It's essentially a vast network of computers from all over the world. It allows businesses to "conduct worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. News events can be reported from across the continents in a matter of seconds" (Mateo 209). Computers, the Internet, and other information technologies are extraordinarily powerful tools. As such, they have great potential to benefit and harm societies that embrace them.
             Technology plays a vital role in our society. We have come to depend on it so much that it has become a necessity. For example, we use our cars for the purpose of transportation. Now, imagine that cars have not been invented. Without such an invention, simple tasks such as getting from point A to point B can be very inconvenient.
