When an outsider comes to a city like Venice, as portrayed in the play Othello, by William Shakespeare, he has to "win" the love of others in order to fit in. Othello takes the audience into a whirlwind perspective of love, friendship, and betrayal. Love for Desdemona leads to her death, because of Iago's sincere behavior and convincing facts. Othello's loyalty to a friend makes Iago's character easier to believe. However, the audience knows the how deceiving he can be, which makes this a wonderful tragedy. Iago is the greatest villain ever created in literature.
             In many regards, Iago's lack of ethics, as proof in his eagerness to harm anyone and everyone so that he may profit for himself, is one of the thing's that make everyone most vulnerable. The audience understands early in the story that Iago is a master of manipulation. He shows that in the first act when he tells the naive Rodrigo, "...put money in thy purse. It/ cannot be that Desdemona should long continue her/ love for the Moor. Put money in thy purse...,"(1.3.337-339). This give Rodrigo false hope. Instead of telling him to move on, he tells him to sell everything he has and Iago will take care of the rest.
             Another aspect that makes Iago so evil is his ability to pass himself off as
             whatever he wishes. If he were a contemporary man, people might say that he was a master of marketing, easily getting people to believe whatever deception he wishes to achieve. A devil in the flesh, Iago has the creepy ability to pass himself off as truthful and get in with whomever he pleases, silently waiting until the time is right to bring about their fall. He uses Othello, Cassio, and the handkerchief to his advantage. He says, "Yours, by this hand! And to see how he prizes/the foolish woman your wife! She gave it him, and/he hath giv'n it to his whore,"(4.1.177-179). Iago pretends to be talking
