Of Mice and Men Paper

             The American author Henry David Thoreau once said, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." Thoreau was very true when he said this because many people do not follow their dreams when they really are unaware that others probably have the same dream as they. The American dream is perhaps a dream that everyone can relate to. It is virtually the dream of every American. In Steinbeck's classic novel, Of Mice and Men, this dream plays no exception to two local men. They both share the desires of having no restrictions, owning a nice place, and sharing their lives with somebody they care about.
             A vision many people share is having no restrictions and no one to hold them back, and that is exactly what Lennie and George have in mind. Lennie especially likes the idea because it would allow him to take care of the rabbits that he dreams about, and it would prevent many of his troubles with other people. Lennie especially likes the idea of taking care of rabbits. He tells everybody many times, " 'We're gonna have rabbits an' a berry patch' " (73), demonstrating his genuine love towards them. Lennie also does not like getting in trouble but sometimes cannot help it, such as the instance with Curly. After crushing Curly's hand, Lennie cries, " 'I didn't wanta...I didn't wanna hurt him' " (64), showing that his strength can take over his mind from time to time. A place with no restrictions would be a utopia to Lennie.
             Another dream that Americans are prone to have is having the comfort of a home that is theirs. This is something that George and Lennie dream day and night about. A dream they both work extensively hard towards that eventually shines hope it is coming true. Once George realizes it could come true, he speaks to Lennie about it and says, " 'Well, it's ten acres. Got a little win'mil...
