The main characters in the story are a group of children named Charlie Bucket, Mike Teavee, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt and Augustus Gloop. Charlie Bucket is honest and good. Mike is a smart boy that is addicted to television. Violet is a world champion gumchewer. Veruca Salt is a spoiled little rich girl who wanted everything she saw. Last in the group is Augustus Gloop who is a fat boy who ate everything he got his hands on.
Charlie is poor and hungry and doesn't have any money. He was walking home from school and found a dollar in the road. He was cold and hungry so he decided to buy two chocolate bars from the store across the street. The first bar he ate in one bite. Inside the second bar he found the gold ticket and his chance to go on a tour of the Chocolate Factory. He became one of 5 kids lucky enough to get a gold ticket.
Charlie walked to the factory and joined all the kids who won the tour of the Chocolate Factory. Mr. Willie Wonka greeted all the winners at the door. Each of the children went on the tour with their parents. There was much to see and do at the Chocolate Factory. Charlie was very excited. He thought it would be fun.
They went into different rooms in the chocolate factory. Augustus Gloop was the first to have a problem. He started drinking from the chocolate river and was sucked up the chocolate pipe. He was told not to drink from the river by Mr. Wonka but he didn't listen. Violet Beauregarde was next. She chewed gum that was a three course dinner. The first course was tomato soup. The second was roast beef and the third was blueberry pie. Eating the gum turned her into a blueberry. Then the Oompa-Loompas rolled her away into the juicing room.
