Sociology

             When first signing up for sociology it started off just as another class I needed to take towards my degree. Not once did I think to myself that I would enjoy or learn anything from this class that would benefit me in my everyday life. There have been many things while taking this course that I have attainted.
             We first started off class learning about the basics of sociology. What is Sociology? I have come to the understanding that sociology has many meanings. Sociology is the scientific study of society, it is the science of society, and is the scientific study of man in his social relationships. Sociology is a very important subject for humans to continue to study. Only good can come out of studying how our societies work and change throughout the years.
             We then learned about the differences between animal society and human society. I have come to learn many differences between the two. One factor being that in human society we coordinated our lives consciously, where non-humans base there survival in instinct. Humans have a large brain compared to their relatively small body mass. A whale has one of the largest brains but it is mostly used to direct its muscles, due to its large body.
             I did enjoy learning about animals and human societies, I found it to be very interesting how we live in the same world but function so differently. Completing our first assignment helped me better understand this topis in more dep.
             Next we learned about sociology as a social science. We discussed how in sociology we seek explanations in social groups, whereas in psychology we seek explanations within the
             individual. This caught my eye, being that my major is a branch off of psychology I really
             wanted to understand the difference. I also learned that sociologist have to test their theories just as a scientist. The most accurate test used is the formal experiment, where the predicted "cause" of change is isolated. An ...
