Slavery in Texas

             Through out time, slavery has been around. From the Spanish, to the Indians, to the Texans all around the world where civilized nations rise, there was slavery and prejudice. Since 1540 though 1865 many events took place that marked history in time.
             Starting with the Spanish conquistadors, who brutalized the Indians in South America to gain control of precious metals, Hernan Cortez was one of the most brutal. He used to burn cities to destroy the Indian civilization because he thought the Indians were ignorant. In Texas, the Spanish decimated the Indian and swept them aside. The Spanish destroyed them by the cause of disease, Christianity, European technology, and fragmentation of population. Some Europeans recognized Indians for their culture, traditions, and their way of life. Yet, other Europeans considered Indians as subhuman, unworthy of human consideration.
             Around 1825, Cabeza de Vaca and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado came to explore Texas. Then,. They both introduce many things to the Indians, yet the Indians just wanted to get rid of the Spanish moving away from them. The competition for Texas was against the Indians, the French, the Spanish, and the White Americans.
             By 1654, Indians were killing Spanish. The French were fighting Spanish riches. The white Americans stepped into the picture to claim Texas territory to the United States.
             Mexico came to its independence in 1810 searching for a reconquista. Mexicans trough the empresario system, allowed North American immigrants to enter Texas. Mexicans required all settlers become Catholic. After 1824, American colonization of Texas was so successful that Mexicans became fearful that they would loose their colony. Hispanic citizens were outnumbered and mostly were mere laborers for white landowners. The Anglo had black slavery, disregard for Indians, intolerance for many people with different ways and beliefs at their worst desecrated Catholic images and raped women....
