             It seems that the peasant families feel that it is important for their children to produce offspring right after marriage because "Betrande's family was pressing her to separate from Martin...," (page 20). Right after Martin was married there were no children or sign of children after a while, so Betrande's family felt strongly about leaving him. So here you can see that peasants felt that there had to be offspring so maybe that the family property will be preserved and that the family reputation would live on.
             As you can see family life was very important to the peasants during the time of Martin Guerre because it determined family reputation and family wealth.
