             The Hippocratic Oath started off in ancient Greece in the time of Socrates. It is considered as the origins of medical ethics, which forbids medical physicists from killing their patients. The Hippocratic Oath started with Hippocrates, but according to prominent historians pieces of evidence indicate that the whole body of writings was a product of different writers, believe to be followers or members of the school of thought founded by Hippocrates. The oath is grounded on many aspects, but rests mainly on the sacredness of life and that all physicians should do what he must to preserve life. Some of the provisions of the Hippocratic oath include: the teaching of medicine to other people should be free of charge, to share knowledge to all others that are interested as well, to keep patients from harm and danger, not to give lethal nor deadly drugs to any patient even if it is asked for and not prescribe it no anyone, not to use the knife to perform surgery to a patient, never to help patients die who request death and never perform abortion. This prohibition of euthanasia is the one that set the Hippocratic schools distinct from other physicians in that time. Although much of the practitioners of medicine during that time excelled in helping patients in painless deaths. There are two prevailing thoughts why the Greeks during that time had such an attitude towards helping patients die or assisting them. First, the Greeks believed that life has its limitations. Trying to extend life beyond the set limits is absurd and was considered as arrogance. Secondly, they did not know much about extending the life of a patient so they just let them die in peace. All in all, the Hippocratic Oath serves as a reminder for the modern practice of medicine the virtue of self-sacrifice and respect for human life.
