When most people are asked about their "community" most people simply do not care. It is evident that your community can alter your life for better or worse, depending on what you do about it. If your area has community meetings or a committee of some sort you should get involved and bring up your ideas and/or concerns. You and your family can get great benefits out of attending these community functions and events; you will develop a wide range of social and people to people relation skills. The safety of your children and your family will be greatly increased meaning less stress and a better peace of mind. Most importantly, you can make a difference. Whether for yourself or everyone else around you, you're making a difference.
First and foremost, the social benefits of community involvement are countless. You develop oral and physical communication skills, debating techniques, social skills. You even make some friends along the way. Oral and physical communication skills can aid you in almost every situation, from work to school. When going in for an interview or presenting and idea, you want your ideas to flow and get straight to the point. Your words must make sense and make a bold impression in their minds and your physical stance (body language) can make your point seem so much stronger. Debating and social skills can also go hand in hand. With a charismatic personality and a "golden tongue" you can almost always get your way. Your community is a place to practice all these skills with no risks involved. The friends that you make will be much closer to you. No longer will you have to make that long strenuous commute to meet up with them instead it's a simple walk or jog over. This makes it easier and safer for your kids to go to their friends houses as well.
