Marijuana

             To this day people are still put under the impression that marijuana is a dangerous drug that kills and causes Americas youth to turn to violence and vandalism.
             What people still don't understand is that marijuana is a very soft substance that is less dangerous and less intoxicating then the beer you find in Safeway.
             If people could just listen and look at the facts, they just might realize that keeping marijuana illegal just makes criminals out of harmless people and takes away a lot of potential profit from our government.
             People right away see the label "drug" and don't bother to look at the benefits of this plant.
             One of the benefits of marijuana is hemp. Hemp comes from part of the plant Cannabis Sativa, which marijuana is produced from.
             One of the more popular uses of hemp is to replace cotton. Not only would hemp be cheaper to grow then cotton, it is also a better fabric. Hemp is softer, warmer, more water absorbent, three times stronger and requires virtually no pesticides compared to cotton.
             Hemp can also be used for paper. In fact, the first two copies of the Declaration of Independence were printed on hemp paper. Hemp farming only takes up one-fourth the amount of land compared to land that timber cut down for paper takes up.
             Basically, this means that for every acre of land on a hemp far would compensate for four acres of destroyed forests.
             The oil that pressed hemp seeds produce is also very useful. This oil can be used to produce make up, paints and varnishes, which would also cut down on the need for some fossil fuels like petroleum.
             Some people already think that hemp is legal because they often see people with hemp back packs and wallets. It is true that you may own hemp material, but it is illegal to grow hemp in America.
